Within the current dynamics of Romanian education, Alina Pamfil’s study carries out an important task: the questioning of canonical models on the one hand along with the reflection on current teaching practices on the other. The perspectives outlined by the well-known methodologist are meant to open up the study of Romanian as mother tongue to contemporary approaches. Moreover, the long-term purpose is that of reshaping the teaching practices for the primary, in order to add features that have been missing for the past few decades: openness, dynamism, artistry. Thus, the study becomes an invitation to the readers (be they students, primary teachers or methodologists) to think further and to attempt a creative reshaping of their own didactic strategies, as it is now widely accepted that academic performance and success depend directly upon the didactic quality of the Romanian class.

Alina Pamfil is professor of Romanian language and literature teaching methodology at the “Babes-Bolyai” University in Cluj-Napoca. The current volume is first in the innovative series based on her coherent and substantial research focused on all three education levels (primary, secondary and upper secondary), series which continues with Limba și literatura română în gimnaziu.
