A dream entices krabat to leave his friends and go to the mill in koselbruch, although he is told that strange things happen there. During the next three years krabat not only learns about milling, he also learns the art of black magic. It turns out that the devil himself is the protector of the mill and krabat realizes that he is in great danger. The language is simple, the story very exciting and the relationship between the miller's apprentices very warm. This is a lovely book which would appeal to both teenagers and adults.
